One of the biggest differences for any cyclist of the ’00 decade vs. a rider from, let’s say, the 1980’s is the efficiency and corresponding stiffness of cycling shoes. In a quest for pulling increased power from the human engine, manufacturers like Sidi, Shimano and Specialized have made the carbon soles of their best shoes unflexible. Good for our power output, but really bad for our feet. Especially on baking hot days when our feet swell and push against the inside of our shoes.
Seeing the opportunity to address a real performance issue, the team at Assos developed the SkinWeb sock. Based on Assos’ proprietary open mesh SkinWeb fabric, these socks have been developed to allow air to circulate around the foot, thus cooling and lowering the amount of swelling on hot days. Composed of a total of 60% SkinWeb fabric and reinforced in the areas where its needed most (heel and toe), the SkinWeb socks are our favorite for any day over 85 °F.
