As with everything they do, Assos has taken the cycling vest to a level that no other company has envisioned. When it comes to fit and protective features, the ElementZero is number one.
Like nearly any piece by Assos, the ElementZero vest is made from a number of fabrics—at least five by our count—all stitched together in a snug fitting layer of perfection. The front of the ElementZero is fabricated from the same wind fighting Airblock 799 4-way stretch fabric found in the Intermediate jersey.
Designed to be used in 43 to 54 °F range and something like the ElementOne jacket, the ElementZero is based on the AEPD II cut so it clicks into position when you’re sitting on your bike (and fits less perfectly when standing in front of a mirror or in line at Peet’s.) The key thing about AEPD II and the ElementZero vest is that, when used with other Assos garments, you’ll get maximum protection with minimal weight and no chafing or obstruction.
Details that put the ElementZero over the top include an adjustable back flap that blocks water and road grime when in its extended position or snaps out of the way when not needed, a surprisingly deep pocket tucked into the right side of the garment and Assos Easy Entry System zipper which makes kicking open the ElementZero on a climb and sealing it up for the descent as easy as can be.
