Somewhere in our mind we long for the 100% genuine chamois gloves that we used to get from Eddy Merckx. Minimal in the extreme, they featured on padding other than a think layer of tan leather. They were works of art, but, being 100% chamois and all, they tended to not last that long and were a bit of a chore to take care of. Thankfully Assos has given us a super minimal glove with modern updates that make it both easier to take care of and better to use.
You might have guessed that the one thing we can’t tolerate is gloves that have thick, bulky padding. Fortunately, Assos understands that the rider should feel the sensations coming from the bike and not be isolated from them (think about auto race drivers that have no padding in their seats), so they specify the SummerGlove with a thin, airy micro-mesh material that has a low volume and promotes great ventilation. Padding is minimal both in the amount used and its thickness while the top of the SummerGloves is a combination of ultra-thin Lycra and a terry material.
