A short designed for riders that like to ride all day and demand the highest level of comfort from their shorts, the FI.Mille is the model that we sell to most serious riders that don't plan on doing a race anytime soon, but log weekly five to ten hour rides. An Assos’ mainstay for over a decade, Assos says the Mille model is made for “More robust riders who like a less tight feeling.” Which we believe is a Swiss way of saying the shorts are for riders that don’t look like the anatomically perfect models in the Assos literature, but can still get after it.
The heart of the Mille_S5 is its incredible insert. Curved to fit your body just like the FI.13 insert, the Mille insert is designed to have slightly more surface area and features an ergonomic taper that places less pressure on the genitals for enhanced comfort on the longest days in the saddle. The Mille pad has same ‘waffle system’ textile as he FI.Mille pad for lower volume, better cooling and increased overall comfort. Topping it all off is a stabilizer built into the pad, a feature that, in the absence of the highly compressive A.431 material found on the FI.13, helps to keep the pad in place while you pedal.
For ultimate comfort, the Mille is constructed largely from the same A.430 textile found in the Uno and FI.13 models but features a unique, highly contoured pattern design that prevents binding and lowers compression without a loss in overall performance. Assos designed the Mille to give a little more than the FI.13, so the shorts feel a little more friendly, especially when you first pull them on. Thanks to a patch of mesh fabric right over the tummy and above the short’s pad, your stomach has a little more room to (ahem) expand than in the FI.13 short and the bib straps are cut to promote the highest level of comfort.
